Details About the Film

This film is part of the series Extra Credit

All-American cheerleader Megan (Natasha Lyonne) thinks of herself as like any other straight girl. Except… Megan doesn’t like kissing her boyfriend, is interested in vegetarianism, and really likes Melissa Etheridge. Suspected of being a lesbian by her friends and family, Megan’s parents send her off to a conversion therapy camp to “cure” her lesbianism supervised by “ex-gay” Mike (RuPaul). While at camp, Megan meets unabashed lesbian Graham (Clea DuVall) and begins to explore her true identity. Popular among queer audiences and on the arthouse theater circuit, Jamie Babbit’s But I’m a Cheerleader is a certified camp classic that uses comedy to rebuke the harm of queer repression. This screening will be followed by a panel discussion with University of Missouri researchers as part of Extra Credit.
