Craig Schwartz (John Cusack), an unsuccessful puppeteer living in Manhattan, takes a job as a file clerk at a bizarre doctor’s office. One day, he discovers a small hidden door that is actually a portal into the mind of actor John Malkovich (John Malkovich). When he shares his discovery with his co-worker Maxine (Catherine Keener), the pair begin an unusual business venture selling “being John Malkovich.” A surrealist exploration of personhood and embodiment, this cult dark comedy launched the careers of writer Charlie Kaufman and director Spike Jonze.
