Details About the Film

This film is part of the series PrideFest: 2024

The debut feature film from filmmaker and digital art pioneer Shu Lea Cheang is a campy and satirical attack on neoliberalism. Lesbian couple Shareen (Sharita Choudhury) and Claire (Erin McMurtry) raise their daughter Honey near the Fresh Kills landfill on Staten Island. When Honey vanishes after eating contaminated fish, Shareen and Claire join a group of hacktivists to find their daughter amidst a global conspiracy involving a ghost ship of nuclear refuse, ominous television commercials, and deadly cat food. This screening will be followed by a conversation with director Cheang about the film, the role of arthouse cinemas, and corporate greenwashing.
