In this cinematic memoir, Afro-Latina filmmaker Rebeca “Beba” Huntt interrogates how race, class, and ancestry shaped her childhood in New York City. The daughter of a Dominican father and Venezuelan mother, Huntt ponders how to exorcise the historical and generational trauma that lingers in her psyche and body in order to become the person and artist she wants to be. Shot mostly on 16mm, Beba is a thoughtful self-portrait of living with multiple identities. This screening will be followed by a community conversation led by Mixed at Mizzou exploring topics such as growing up with a mixed identity, familial legacies, and creative expression.
