A queer spin on Henrik Ibsen’s classic play from writer/director Nia DaCosta, Hedda is a provocative exploration of gender, race, and desire. Hedda Gabler (2026 Golden Globe nominee Tessa Thompson) finds herself caught between the lingering flames of an old love and the suffocating nature of married life. Over the course of one long night, Hedda and those in her orbit become swept up in a spiral of manipulation, passion, and betrayal as she tries to figure out what it is she really wants.
"While [Nia] DaCosta’s intelligence as a writer and director makes “Hedda” a standout film, her penchant for play makes it a delightful one."
–Natalia Winkelman, New York Times
"Hedda is a delightful, sexy ride made that reminds us that [Tessa] Thompson is a star and [Nia] DaCosta has many more tricks up her sleeve. It’s good to hear her unique narrative voice again."
–Jourdain Searles, The Hollywood Reporter
"Director Nia DaCosta’s movie blows new life into the Ibsen classic, creating a drama that is as sexy and beguiling as its tragic antiheroine, and as relevant today as it was in the Victorian era when the controversial work was first penned."
–Thelma Adams, AARP Movies for Grownups
