Regarded as one of the greatest films in cinema history, The Seventh Seal ushered in a new era of international arthouse cinema in the 1950s. Weary from a decade of fighting in the Crusades, knight Antonius Block (Max von Sydow) returns home to discover his country grappling with the Black Plague. When he encounters Death on an isolated beach, Antonius challenges him to a decisive chess game that sends him on a quest to discover the meaning of life, death, and God. Selected for Ragtag Rewind by longtime Ragtag Regulars Bill Bondeson and Linda Butterfield-Cupp. This screening will be followed by a discussion with Bill and Linda about the themes and legacy of The Seventh Seal.

The Seventh Seal will be screened on 35mm.
